Join local author Tim Bohen to learn more about the Irish who built the Erie Canal, including:

  • how Lockport-Pendleton was one of the most difficult sections of the Erie Canal
  • the working and living conditions of the Lockport workers
  • the two riots that happened in Lockport
  • Chauncey Olcott, the great Irish singer and songwriter whose grandfather worked on the Erie Canal
  • the statues to the mostly Irish canal workers that were recently installed at the Flight of Five locks   

He will also read from his new book, Emerald Thread: The Irish in Buffalo, which will be available to purchase the evening of the program.
